I like that :notworthy:

Just a thought but looking at the off set Airy discs around the stars I would say you have slightly pinched optics on your Borg..

Need to get Phil to venture an opinion Refactors are his field of expertise.

Thats interesting, i though that misshaped stars would have resulted from pinched optics, true the disk isnt perfect around the brightest stars, so i thought that it was a missalignment of either the filters of ccd window to the optical axis......

I think its the filters that casue a lot of the halos round the brighter stars

i will dig ont the classic pinched optics image later this weekend

It might well be the filters but the offset of the airy discs are on different sides on the stars on the left and right of the image.

And I guess being close to the CCD chip we are probably talking a sub mm alignment issue.....they are 36mm unmounted, so any slight difference in the tightness of the three retaining screws would be enough

You have probably just answered the question.

If the screws are too tight they might cause the filter to flex introducing a curve which would explain the Airy discs offset being on different sides of the stars.

Sub mm -- microns more like.

Its still a great image  :)

many thanks all for the encouragement, its been a difficult imaging season, what with weather and kit playing up....
