Celestron AVX

Hi I'm still investigating the above mount whilst I save my pennies. I wish there was an outlet in Leicestershire so I could go in and discuss my concerns. Anyway I still have some questions: I have a power box to run different items from and the cable goes into the black box on my eq3-2 mount and the other end, that goes into the power box, has a cigarette attachment, can I still use this to power the AVX mount? The capacity of the AVX is about 14lbs, I think that's right, and an eq5 is about 9 lbs, does that mean the mount on the AVX is heavier, if so what is the total weight of the AVX? Last question today, when the AVX mount first came out there appeared to be a few teething problems with it and since then the manufacturer has ironed out a lot of them. There are some retailers that are selling the Celestron Edge HD 8 ota along with the AVX mount for around £1600 but if you purchase each separately the total is closer to £1800, why? Any answers please.

Hi Melvin - all your weights and capacities for the AVX are at the bottom of this link - yes it's heavier than the EQ5:

You'll also find power requirements and dc/ah ratings - the voltage needs to remain above 12v for it to be effective and not cause problems. You will find that buying in a package is usually discounted to some extent, over buying individual items separately - commercialism tut!

I think that answers everything for you. If you fancy coming round for a chat and a look at some gear I'm sure I can help/advise - just pm me to arrange.  :)

Hi Kim thanks for the info. I believe I have visited you in the past but I do not know how to send a pm. Could you send me your details and I'll ring you to set up a meeting at your place.
