A small galaxy in a field of stars.

Never fails to amaze me how many stars are out there - then suddenly smack in the middle of a dense patch you find a galaxy. Amazing shot Graham. :)

Thanks Kim.

I did not realise there were so any stars around this either until the subs started rolling in.

Amazing Graham, you almost can't 'see the woods for trees'.

I believe NGC 6946 is also known as the 'Fireworks Galaxy' seen through our own Milky Way star field - and it's a cracker!

thanks for sharing! ?

You are quite correct Stephen.

8 super novas have gone off in the Galaxy in the past century

Very nice

You have part of the star cluster NGC6939 in the top left corner. They are 40 arc minutes apart.

If you got yourself a 2" 40mm wide field eyepiece you'd see them both together visually - this is why you need more eyepieces ;)

You are unlikely to get them visually with the moon around though.

Or I could just move the camera/scope round a bit :P:rofl:

I should've expected an answer like that.
