Popular Post Bassinghamobservatory Posted July 6, 2016 Popular Post Share Posted July 6, 2016 I started digtal imaging with a Canon 1100D about 2 or 3 years ago and have progressed from short unguided exposures to 5 minute guided and even used dithering on later images. I am grateful to Mick Hunt of Lincoln AS for acting as my mentor (see www.thegardenobservatory.org.uk). The Lincoln AS Imaging Group has a Flickr page at https://www.flickr.com/photos/132180115@N05/ In May I went mad and bought a QHY IMG2Pro ccd camera (same detector as Atik 314L) after having been looking for a reasonably priced secondhand ccd. The price of this one had come down to the point where I would not save much buying a used one. I managed to find a used filter wheel and LRGB filters on Astrobuysell at a reasonable price so here we go. This is not the best time of year to be trying out a new camera with the short nights and bright skies even on good nights, so I was not expecting anything brilliant. M51 was the target chosen as it was nearly overhead and well away from the moon. The images were captured on 27 May and 4, 5, 6 June using a free trial of Sequence Generator Pro and processed in Pixinsight with final adjustments in Photoshop CS2. Exposures were L 25 x 5 min, RGB 6 x 4 min each. Compare this to my DSLR image on the LAS Flickr page. I am still a novice with Pixinsight so I know it is far from perfect but happy with this for a start. It is being added to the Flickr page soon.
