HD 198931

Well what a night I had last night.

The skies were clear the weather was warm and things could not have been more perfect for imaging and lying back in the garden watching the meteor show.

 

Set the imaging rig going on the Nebular surrounding HD 198931.

After checking all was well with that I set up the 10 inch Meade and the ST 80 on the Adventure mount for a spot of visual.

 

The ST 80 and the new EP from Sheila turned out to be a brilliant combination.

After a leisurely tour of the sky I trained it in on the Andromeda galaxy where it stayed for the next four hours.

I left it tracking on here as I just could not get enough of looking at it.

 

The Meade was used for just generally wandering around the heavens checking out the amazing star formations I kept stumbling across.

 

On top of all this I was treated to many shooting stars of various colours.

 

Unfortunately the clouds started rolling back in at around 3am which was a shame as I had just started to get my first look of the season of the Pleiades cluster.

Just shows how time has flown by and it wont be long before we are back into M42 territory once again.

 

All in all a night to remember.

Sounds like a great night Graham, image is very good! Looking forward to seeing what my new house will be like for astro, not been there in the dark yet!!

Sounds like you had a cracking night there Graham. It's nice to have time and not be under pressure from the weather. Your imaging gear behaved itself as well!

M31 is just gorgeous isn't it, there is so much to take in through one eyepiece.

That is a beautiful and detailed image Graham.

 

I can imagine that the Morpheus on the ST80 would be superb on M31.

Here's a link to some info on a most fascinating object very clearly shown within Grahams image. Herbig Haro 555 is a protostar forming at the end of the elephants trunk thing hanging down from the brighter part of the nebula. You can't actually see the protostar itself, but the tell tale signs are all visible in Grahams image. There are several other HH objects within the nebula...

Glad you managed to get in a fantastic nights viewing as well as multitasking - taking subs at the same time! ??
