Images of Uranus, Neptune, Ceres and Pallas

Between 3 and 6 October 2016, I had a go at looking for the objects titled. It started with Ceres and lead on to going for Uranus, Pallas and finally Neptune.  Guy Wells encouraged me to try for Pallas after he and Daniel Bamberger confirmed Ceres.  I now have data for Ceres and Uranus over 3 nights.  I might be able to show the relative movement against background stars, by blink comparator or making a movie. I'm not sure how to do it.  I've photographed Uranus before, but this was my first time trying for the two asteroids and Neptune.

 

Equipment. Tamron 70-300 mm zoom lens, set at 300 mm. Exposures 1.6 sec, and 5 sec for the Neptune trail.  I wanted to see if a trail would show some relative colour difference between Neptune and the background stars.  There was a distict greenish blue colour on the Neptune trail, whilst the brighter of the stars where roughly cream or white.  So I assume if it was some kind of chromatic aberration from the lens, the aberration would happen to all stars and make them the same colour as Neptune. But this didn't happen, so perhaps the Neptune colour is genuine.

A bit of old school astro then Derek, you have some nice captures there, I am impressed with the asteroids, it just goes to show what can be achieved with a bit of thought and determination.
