Popular Post +Bino-viewer Posted July 12, 2017 Popular Post Share Posted July 12, 2017 (edited) Took a trip with Mick (Doc) this afternoon to East Leake quarry in the hope of seeing, observing & hopefully imaging the visiting Bee eaters. They didn't disappoint A lovely and rather exotic looking bird, i think. Despite a rather long walk, carrying all my astro gear (2 trips & some amused looks on the way !) we had a great view of them at a vantage point approx 100yds from where they were residing. The images i took are not the best, but for a first time not too bad. There was quite a bit of heat haze (a surprise after yesterday) and i found focusing a bit of a guessing game. Scope : WO 925mm refractor, prime focus with my Canon 6D. Big thanks to Mick for accompanying me, and showing me the way. Swarovski STX95 Swarovski 30mm Apochromat Telephoto Lens System They actually do a dedicated Full frame system now I think it comes out this month. http://www.uttings.co.uk/p124861-swarovski-43mm-apochromat-telephoto-lens-system-for-atx-and-stx-scopes-swapotlstx43mm/#.WWcaPIjyvIU This enables you to photograph at up to 2100mm focal length. I went past a load of tape, barriers and notices on the Wymeswold road on my way to Norfolk, then saw loads of folk walking from a makeshift car park laden with scopes binos etc. I thought it may have been bird related as I passed by then the Beeeater Car Park sign gave it away. Funny on my way back in the teeming rain on tuesday there was still the signs, barriers etc but no one around.
