Blazewear flash sale.

Thanks for the heads up Andy. If I cool down a bit from the current 33 degrees in Cannes, I might just turn my thoughts to cut price winter gear. :)

Will have a look tonight.

Check out the Blazewear site now! Much better discounts than 50% on the sale items now. Some as much as 80% off!! :2thumbsup:

Just bought the £130 heated jacket for just £26 + £10 for the remote control lithium battery pack. Got 2 pairs of silver socks reduced from £13 a pair to £2.60! :)

Must be making room for some new styles, but nobody will notice in the dark.

Cheers Andy.

Got to be an absolute bargain at that price, even though it might not be quite Armani photoshoot material. Don't think Armani do heated stuff anyway. :D

Jacket for my other half.

Gillet for me.

Thanks for the heads up.

(I wish Tele-vue would have a 50%-80% sale. Now wouldn't that be good :D)

The heated jacket has now gone up from the rock bottom £26 to £65, original price was £130!

Seems like a well insulated warm jacket even if it hadn't got the battery powered heating. Definitely not the most stylish jacket around, but looking at the tat in my wardrobe it ranks pretty highly. :D

Very pleased, and I'm sure I will use it a lot when the weather gets colder.

80% sale is on again for anyone who missed out.

Unless you want to save your money for the hot new range of gear due for September. :)

I have to say I'm impressed with my jacket. Not charged the battery yet but it's not a bad jacket on its own. Think if I ordered again I would of chosen the higher capacity battery rather than the remote control.

Agreed, and when heated, I think they are the ideal thing for astronomers who don't sit in a warm room. Great for winter dog walks as well.

I agree, the double capacity battery is probably the best bet. I have a gillet and the jacket now and already have the double capacity battery but recently got the smaller remote controlled version (which I haven't tried yet). I extended the cable poking out of the internal battery pocket so I could keep the battery in an outside pocket and easily switch between the 4 heat settings. If you aren't used to these heated garments, you will find that you need to change the settings. Mostly you will put it on max when it is reaĺly cold out, but within 5 minutes need to lower the heat setting.

I'm guessing these sky high prices are to help pay for their swanky new website ?

They'll be plenty of unsold stock anyway.

I suggest we return to them again next April when they have their next 'sale' :)

I brought a gillet when they had the sale on and SWMBO treated herself to a heated jacket.

Not worn the gillet yet but Catherine likes her jacket. Its not her usual pink but it keeps her warm and she's the neche sort......

On looking closely at their new range of heated garments, they are actually made to a considerably higher spec (insulation and breathability values) than the old stock. The new batteries will also last up to double the time of the old batteries, and the heating elements should provide more warmth with greater efficiency.

For not much more than the price of the gillets (£280) you could go to specialist suppliers and buy unheated top class expedition jackets that would keep you alive for weeks in the Antarctic at 50 degrees below, long after any batteries would have gone flat or failed due to cold! I have recently been studying such high tech jackets that are designed to perform far better than the new Blazewear stuff, and combine lightweight yet super efficient high loft duck down insulation with excellent breathability. Breathability is the ability for sweat from the skin to evaporate though and dissipate out of the garment. This is important, because once you start to sweat if the moisture cannot wick away from the body (due to low breathability), you can then get very cold very quickly. The new Blazewear gear is an improvement, but they really seem to have priced themselves out of the range of most people.

I'm still weighing up the pros and cons to find the best way to enjoy a long winters night under the stars, and Blazewear have just complicated things for me.

Canada Goose seem to be the ultimate if you are in the market for jackets up to and even over a thousand pounds. :o

Although the Canada Goose are no doubt incredible performers, I reckon their price is inflated more due to their designer status with people who actually have to go outside and brave the winter elements to fill up their own Porsche.

I think Rab do some great gear, and have just visited their factory near Alfreton this afternoon. I tried on their ultimate polar expedition jacket, the Summit Batura. It was discounted from £450 to £295! It was just way OTT and fattened me up with about 4 inches of insulation all round. I looked like "Nanook of the North". :D It is far too warm for even the worst UK winter weather. The factory shop is well worth a visit with all the gear discounted by up to 35%. It is all Rab and Lowe Alpine stuff, a big warehouse full. I'll be back next week for some bargains when I decide on the right gear.

Re Canada Goose.

I once saw a street beggar in Liverpool wearing a Canada Goose jacket.

I did a double take that day.

So either someone was very generous.....or...

a. He nicked it

b. It was a fake.

Neither a. or b. would surprise me in Liverpool

I have had a RAB jacket for at least 8 years now. Bought in in sale reduced from something like £400 to £150 it was an Christmas present. I always wear it while observing at night and it's been fantastic, kept me really warm. It said on the label "used by army while in Norway"

Only problem is it's dry clean only and they wanted £30 to wash it so it's never been washed just wiped down.

It is god gear, but I am warm enough in the gear I have without heaters. Well so far anyway. The only time I have got cold is down to my own fault for not bringing the warmer stuff thinking I would be ok with lighter gear.
