Guide scope

I'm probably running a little before I can walk, but assuming that we get some clear skies sometime soon and I try out a webcam and get hooked on astro photography, what would I need for a guide scope for my scope? I assume that I'll need a mounting bracket, a small OTA, some form of imaging device to plug into a laptop and some form of software to control the mount.

Can anyone recommend a good but not too expensive setup?

I guess if I get a reasonable refractor as a guide scope, then I could change between the refractor and the SCT as to which one operates as the guide and which one I use to take the pictures depending on what I want to photograph.
