Luna up close from this evening 22.07.2018

Walking home tonight I noticed the moon was up and clear.

As soon as I got home it was straight outside and open up the roof.

 

Had a look at Blobby in Newt mode with a 10mm EP.

The view was amazing despite being a little fuzzy due to the collimation being off.

 

It then crossed my mind to set the scope up in Cass mode.

Again Collimation was a mile off, I am thinking I have put the spider on 180 degrees out from where it used to live.

After a bit of faffing with the collimation knobs I had it pretty much centered up.

Then it was a case of moving the secondary mirror in and out to get the focal length correct.

I was warned that this exercise was a PITA because of the effect of moving it has.

For every 1mm you move the mirror the focal length changes 30mm so trying to hit the 50mm travel of the focuser was a nightmare.

Anyways I got there in the end.

 

If the views in Newt mode were amazing then the views in Cass mode were mind blowing.

If this is with very very rough colimation I cannot wait to see what it is like after I get it sorted.

 

Then I decided to stick my un-modded  Canon in the back of it to see what I could get.

 

The following are all a bit soft on focus as it was all a bit hectic but you get the idea.

It was a case of move the scope and shoot as the tracking was not on.

Exciting stuff, and a massive image scale at the cassegrain prime focus. ?

Looking good Graham. My first reflector was a 6" cass/newt with dual secondaries and that was a pain to swap but in cas you were at f20 because of the figuring of the secondary.
