Happy New Year to you all again. It's the really difficult decision time for me again, the image of the year for 2018. Gawd where do I begin because there has been so many?

January was Graham and his mosaic of SH2-240.  https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/13925-sh2-240-wip-the-story-continues/

February was a widefield over Dartmoor by Chris P.

https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/14057-widefield-view-over-dartmoor-national-park/

March was an M42 close up by dave.hardy2

https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/14138-m42/

April was a lunar shot by andyboy1970

https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/14316-moon-200418/

May, Derbyshire Dave gave us an M81

June saw 8472 give us North American and Pelican

https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/14595-220618-north-america-pelican-nebulae/

July was Ibbos Saturn

August was Peter Shahs Milky Way and the Boy

September  Grahams Elephant stood out

https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/14994-elephant-trunk-neb-in-hubble-pallet/

October was Ibbo and Venus

https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/15173-venus-26-10-2018-about-10-mins-before-inferior-conjunction/

November was Peter Shahs Iris nebula

https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/15204-the-iris-in-rgb/

December is Chris P.  IC1871

https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/15358-ic1871-inside-the-soul-nebula-first-light-on-the-stc-duo-narrowband-filter/

All excellent images and  not an easy one to pick because they are all outstanding but 2 really stick with me and they are

Ibbos Venus 10 minutes before inferior conjunction, because that is good astronomy, a lot of planning has gone into this, not an easy shot

and Peter Shahs Iris nebula because of the colours and contrast and also I am a sucker for dark nebula nicely processed and this has it all.

But I have to choose one so the EMS Picture of the Year goes to......

Peter Shah and his Iris Nebula in RGB

https://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/15204-the-iris-in-rgb/

well done Peter a lovely image.

Wow, that was a good year for the imagers, given that we had some pretty poor weather most of the time too. No Lunar for December really show's how poo the clouds have been.

Without doubt there have been some outstanding images, it does amaze me that back yard equipment is able to turn out images better than professional gear from not that long back either.

Many Congratulations to Pete though, that is an outstanding Iris Nebula, the depth is unreal.

Many thanks to Phil for being the PoTM Judge, it's not an easy job and looks like getting more difficult for his year.

Many thanks to everyone who share their work, it's good to see the gradual improvements as folks techniques ( And equipment budget!) slowly grows and get better.

Here's to a clouting 2019.
