Popular Post +Graham Posted February 4, 2019 Popular Post Share Posted February 4, 2019 Had a nice quiet Monday morning so I cracked on with the mount. After a couple of hours all four of the bearing housings were done. So I moved everything down into the weld bay so I could assemble the bodies. Couple of views of the assembled bodies roughly as they will be once I get the shafts in. The loose panels will be bolted into position so they can be removed to get the cables in when I assemble the mount on the pier. All the cabling for the mount and the scope will run inside the mount so nothing will be visible when it is all together. All cooled down and parked back behind my lathe. Next job it to ease the location points on the lids so they are easy to remove then drill and tap the locating bolts. I will then fabricate the main stand and weld it to the lower body. I will also cut the base plate and matching pier top on the water jet whilst I am at it. Then it is onto the shafts. More to follow as it happens. +Graham Posted February 5, 2019 Author Share Posted February 5, 2019 (edited) The shafts are 65mm diameter high grade steel. They have to be as I need to make sleeves to fit the bearings. The bottom sleeves will slide on the shaft to tension the bearings once assembled. They will also carry the drive gears. All will become clear when I make them.
