"Baz Battery" Box

After much faffing around and a few stumbles along the way, the build is finally complete! Many thanks to Martyn for the battery :)

First off inside the lid, though this is not a waterproof battery box, it doesn't hurt to silicone seal all the connectors (bar the one that may migrate one day) in. All will be revealed shortly as to what they are ...

Here's the outside of the lid. Somewhat unconventional placement, but once you cut a hole that's too big for something ... you have to put something in it with a larger cut out!

On the top we have two 15A ammeters. Beneath there's two marine grade DC sockets (as I'm running from a hub I don't need more!) On either side of the box are some power switches (well why not!) and finally next to the DC sockets is my CTEK comfort charger port / battery state indicator.

Inside you can see how little space there actually is! This is the largest box I could find, and it only just holds the bigger battery Martyn supplied :) The battery is attached to the floor of the box via some extra strong velcro (click lock rather than hook and fluff style!)

The comfort charger does not run through the ammeter or the power switches (it's always connected!) for charging / status.

And finally with the lid on the box, some webbing (nightmare over this, don't ask!) just to hold things together. It's not going to be load bearing in any way (that would be asking for trouble as the whole assembly is now over 25KG!) but it keeps the lid nice and tight (though there are still ventilation ports around the bottom of the lid.

All in all a fun project, but one I never plan to undertake again. I've spent a little bit more (about £30 all in) than I really wanted to, but it's a nice result :)

As you can see, the orange light is on the panel : time to charge it up!

Great job there. I might replace my maplin box with something similar. Could use the maplin as a doner ;))

Be good if you would post a parts/source list and wiring details for this. It might become a summer project ;)

I'm not an electrician by trade, not sure I want to put your health and the health of your battery in my hands ;)

I traced all the parts online after looking at the photo's, but your sources are cheaper than mine if you can do it for just £30.

Very smart and convenient idea. Excellent job Stephen.

Box £13 http://cgi.ebay.co.u...23#ht_500wt_982

Sockets £9 http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1439.l2649

Ammeters £10 http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1439.l2649

Switches £4 http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1439.l2649

Strapping £3 http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1439.l2649

Cable (already had, 15A rated)

Crimps (already had, yellow M4/M8/Female Spade)

(Charger panel not included as that's a value add as I had the charger.)

OK so little more than I thought at £39. The sundries I already had probably cost £6 to buy from Maplin / eBay.

If you blow yourself up, not my problem ;)

You can also knock a tenner off if you make a single output only :)

This configuration works for me due to the mount hub, typical battery boxes tend to have internal fuses and more outputs for each device.

Wiring should be easy enough to follow from the first diagram.

Just remember sockets must be centre positive and ammeters are wired in series.

What price ,if batt supplied cold you knock these out to people who have bazs batts

Sorry, not a chance :)

Too much risk of someone using it unfused, or blowing a piece of kit and holding me responsible.

Yeah there's that a guess worth a try looks great by the way

If your battery will fit, you could do worse than this if you don't want to have a go yourself

WARNING : This is also an unfused solution
