Popular Post Doc Posted April 6, 2019 Popular Post Share Posted April 6, 2019 Finally I have a Clave telescope to go with my collection of Clave eyepieces. It's a 80mm objective with a 1208mm focal length making it F15. It has a new aluminium tube, fully flocked with at least 5 baffles from what I can see. I have yet to use it due to poor weather but cannot wait to see if my Clave eyepieces work well with it. Clave never made telescopes only objectives so the few scopes that are around are all the do it yourself variety. I need to sort out a way to mount my red dot finder without damaging the tube, but i do have an idea for that. And it needs an handle between the tube rings. These objectives are pretty rare and very hard to find, might get a 6" next and make the scope myself. Last photo shows my eyepiece collection to go with it. Here's some photos. I'm guessing at F15 there is a lot more tolerance in its design as CA is no longer an issue ? It always fascinates me how refractor designers go about their work overcoming the various 'optical challenges'. Theres so many different designs out there. I found this old CN thread. You may have seen it. a 130 F15 ! Also in there is the 1985 Clave catalogue. I suppose you could put a Rigel finder on it as the Rigel shoe sticks to a surface and you don't have to drill holes into anything. The focuser looks like a GSO and most of them have tiny grub screws that unthread revealing M4 screw holes for mounting a finder shoe. Nightspore Posted April 7, 2019 Share Posted April 7, 2019 You can see one of the grub screws immediately to the right of the finder shoe on my old modified ST80 below. Before I attached the finder shoes I removed the tiny grub screw by slowly unthreading it with a small Allen key. The Allen key didn't fit it exactly but I could at least work it free. The grubs probably prevent dust entering the focuser. They match the M4 screws that are usually included with most finder shoes. I hope this helps. A milling machine must come in handy. The first time I tried to remove a grub screw from a focuser I turned it the wrong way and it dropped into the focuser mechanism.
