Encoder Drives fitted.

Had a bit of spare time at work today so I manufactured the drives for the RA and DEC shaft encoders.

The timing gears started life as a solid disc with a hub in the center.

Five minuets on the Lathe soon had the centers removed leaving me with just the outer rim with the teeth on.

I then turned up a couple of bosses that were an interference fit inside the toothed rim.

I then bored out the center of the bosses to the exact size of the RA and DEC shafts they were being mounted on.

After parting off the bosses and machining to length I drilled and tapped three holes in each one for the locking grub screws.

Last job was to add a smear of Locktite and press the toothed rims onto the bosses.

Finished result.

When I got home the task in hand was to make the most of the daylight and fit the drives.

I removed the body cover plate, the Worm gear wheel and bearing from each shaft in turn.

Once removed the encoder drive boss was slid up the shaft through the bearing housing.

This was followed by the belt. ( Good point to remember. )  ?  ?  ?

Then it was just a case of refitting the bearing and worm gear wheel.

The final position of the drives will be determined after I have fitted the Encoders and their brackets.

Thanks.

Even better

I have just had confirmation from UPS that my Servo motors are in the air and on their way.

Might even have this up and running at the weekend. ---------  MIGHT ?

Image 1, 3 and 4 are not viewable on here Graham for me.

Just blank panels that flicker a bit.

My iMac computer seems to be running normally otherwise.

That looks fantastic and Saturday looks as though it’ll be clear. So if it clouds over we’ll know your servos have arrived. Doh!

Further update on my new motors.

They were in the air but not on their way over the pond but were flown down to Miami.

Here they have been processed and with a bit of luck will be put on a plane to come over to the UK.

So the hopeful weekend first light is never going to happen. ? ? ?

Good news

My Motors left Heathrow Airport this morning.

God only knows where they are off to now, probably back to the USA ?
