First (sun)light

Finally a vaguely pleasant day and an opportunity to get the Williams Optics Zenithstar ZS66 Petzval out. I managed a quick look at the sun between clouds with the Hyperion 8-24 with my homemade filter and Solar Continuum filter. On 8mm the sun nicely filled the view.

And outside, mounted on my daughter's decent photo tripod

The tin came with a watch once upon a time, and I've had it stuffed in a draw for years - I always knew it would come in handy!

And of course, a picture with one of the cats!

This scope is a brilliant size for grab and go or a quick setup when there are 10 minutes spare. Really happy with it.

The next step is to learn how to attach my camera and take a few pictures.... but that will require more than 5 minutes sunshine!

Well it makes everything go very green

I've seen no sign of anything on the surface - other than spots that is! But there again there hasn't been much chance to play with it as yet. When I looked through the C9.25 a while ago the view was a bit dim so I couldn't really tell what was on offer with higher magnifications - I think I need to add more holes to my big DIY filter to allow more light through. Another project!
