There are three types of daddy long legs the crane fly type as in your photo, the Cellar spider, and the Harvestman spider all known by the same name.

I think the number of replies to a photo of a daddy longlegs proves just how bad the weather is. This time last year, I was snapping Perseids. I've bagged just one faint one this year and a brighter sporadic in that part of the sky.

And the crane fly variety come from leather jackets I was suprised to learn not as long ago as I should of.

Which also love to destroy lawns by devouring the roots.
