Popular Post +Graham Posted February 1, 2021 Popular Post Share Posted February 1, 2021 Still on the learning curve with the new RC. I set up with the QSI 683 tonight to see what it would produce. The image scale came as a total surprise to me after years of using the GT 81. Before finding targets was easy with the GT 81 and I could not understand why my go-to were so far out with the RC. I would slew to a star and it was not even on the chip, after seeing the first image come in I now understand the issue. The FOV with the RC is tiny compared with the GT 81 so now I have got to build up a new sky map in EQMOD which I have started tonight. The more new coordinates I put in the better the go to got. The guiding on the other hand was a complete mare. No pun intended 😅 Guiding with the camera's built in OAG is going to take some sorting. I have had to reduce the calibration pulse length in PHD from 1400 for the GT 81 down to 500 for the RC and it still needs to come down a bit more. I know conditions were bad but the guiding was all over the place tonight where before I would get a near flat line all night. That is something I will be working on in the future. Tonight's conditions were absolute rubbish with a lot of murk and dew. I did manage 10 subs in HA at 600 seconds but unfortunately the secondary mirror fogged up and I lost half of them. ( must sort out the dew heater ) Anyway I stacked what I could just to see what I ended up with. This is full frame stacked in Maxim with no processing. I know the image of the Nag is rubbish but I needed to show the incredible difference between the 2 scopes. The same target with the GT 81 and the QSI. +Ibbo Posted February 1, 2021 Share Posted February 1, 2021 (edited) You will be very uncomfortable with the guiding curve to start with then learn to live with it in time as it looks quite bad but the image comes out quite well. Its a bit odd but it will come . Just wait till broadband time for those galaxies and the sub length will tumble down compared with narrowband. Brady Posted February 2, 2021 Share Posted February 2, 2021 Thats the first target i went for to compare 😀, my finger slipped and purchased the StellaLyra 8" f/12 for planetary but had a whack with dso, i found using Astap through APT works great for plate solve although not always, i had to have gain right up to pick out the faintest of stars to add to the numbers if there was only 2 or 3 in the image otherwise it would just time out or report an error if it couldnt solve, although must admit it landed bang on target with this one first time.. I find using a dslr using apt/Astap to use 1600iso for images to platesolve , Astap does apparently struggle with small fov but if you do have a problem message Hans the developer with an image that failed and he will help . I have had plate solving running in the past on it and it did an incredible job. I will load up all the relevant info it needs for the RC and the QSI and get it working again.
