I want a shed to house my ever increasing Astro gear.

Would anyone advise against a metal one?

JFT discount warehouse have got some 6x4ft metal ones for £99.99 - seems good value.

It comes in green but I'd probably re-paint it white to reflect some of those rays.

Obviously security would be a priority and I'd want to alarm it and make sure it gets covered on my house insurance.

Cheers, Dan

You will find it might well create a lot of condensation.

Just take a look at your scope on a cool night.

Unless you line it.

Might get a bit hot for astro gear methinks??

Thats what Im worried about Ron, however, if you google shed observatories they're are a few people who use them.

Wood absorbs the heat, I've a max/min thermometer in the obsy and over the last week its been only 22'C max and 13'C min, I think a metal shed would be much wider (ie much higher and much lower) Not sure if this helps Dan? :)

We have a metal shed and it gets extremely hot in the day.

I would not store my astro stuff in there.

I have measured 40 degrees at times.

Thanks John - that's made my mind up, I'll go for a timber one instead.

I think a wise decision.

Another thing is that they are very noisy when opening and closing, ours has slide doors.

Wood is much better i think.

Id not thought about noise from coming in/out at all hours - the neighbours wouldn't appreciate that lol
