Yes, adding spikes is always a bit controversial. I saw the Beehive imaged by Noel Carboni with the spikes and fell in love with it and I always fancied trying to do my own version. It certainly looks nice no doubt, although I myself am not really in to adding things like spikes and artificial star colours. I'm more of a minimalist, but thats just me, but its interesting however to see a cluster like this in a different perspective.
