The 'tunnel house' is very interesting and i'm sure it has some history.

 

Years ago Whatstandwell station was located to the north of the tunnel and the old platform is still there.

I'm not sure you can see it from the canal though......??

 

Its a nice walk along there from Ambergate to Cromford, one we have done quite a few times, both on foot and on two wheels.

A train and a pub is usually brought into the mix as well !

Yes i think so.

It was double track all the way through via Bakewell Buxton and on to Chinley before.

 

Just a single line now from Ambergate to Matlock.

There is a preserved section - The Peak Rail line, that goes through Darley Dale, Rowsley from Matlock station and they run steamers etc 

The route from south Bakewell up towards Buxton is now a cycleway and is spectacular ; well worth a visit.
