Tried out something different tonight.

I used the 'Canon utilities' for the camera control instead of the normal little box of tricks.

Much much better results.

By connecting direct into the computer there is no downloading of images from the camera at the end of the session.

Canon Utilities also gives you a total number of time lapse frames of 9999 where the hand held timer only allows for 399 time lapse frames.

This means no clock watching to reset the timer plus the added bonus of reducing the interval between frames producing a smoother video.

For this time lapse I was shooting a frame every 5 seconds.

Hi Graham - nice timelapses. A couple of tips if you want to smooth the action further

1) increase your shutter speed to 1second per image by reducing the ISO and f-stop or by using a neutral density filter. Your camera is on a static mount so  you won’t get camera shake but it will allow motion blur in the cloud movement for a smoother look.

2) or just increase the frequency of your images from one every five seconds to one every 2 seconds. Assuming you’re rendering your final video at 30 frames a second, a sequence of 1800 shots should give you a 1 minute film covering the final hour of sunset.

3) to save storage space on the card or computer, I set the camera to record a small JPG. If you’re posting to social media the quality shouldn’t be an issue and it makes it easier to process.

just things I’ve learned as I’ve gone along. Hope this is helpful

cheers
