Is anyone able to identify this?

I saw this object on Friday night (29th April) as I was packing away for the night, the time was just passed midnight. I had the mount and tripod to dismantle and I looked up and saw a bright object surrounded by a haze. I initially thought it was a satellite passing over, possibly lighting up some high cloud, however as far as I could discern there had been no high cloud that evening, in fact the seeing seemed great and I had been splitting double stars easily. It appeared as a ball of haze with a brighter centre and to me it appeared similar to the globular clusters I had been looking at to finish off my session 🙂 however the bright centre faded. It moved fairly slowly from the southwest towards the north. I looked at it for a while wondering what it could be before grabbing my mobile for some snaps, the first image is with no magnification and the object is up and to the left of the tree that is lit up by my headtorch but the rest are at 10x. I've looked online to see if there are any more reports but can't find any, but here is a link to a video which shows something very similar a few days earlier in Grimsby but the object I saw wasn't followed by a bright light like in this video - https://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/news/grimsby-news/ufo-filmed-flying-high-speed-6989944

I wondered if maybe there had been a rocket launch around that time and I was seeing something to do with that but I couldn't find one that matched the timings.

Any thoughts?

I was out with the 72ED on Friday between about 21:00 and 00:30. I'm not sure of the exact time, but it was probably just past midnight, when I saw a bright light above me travelling towards the north, maybe a little to the north-west. It seemed fast for an aircraft. I didn't hear anything as I had ear buds in and was either listening to Radio Shropshire or Radio 3 lol. As it moved further away, and lower, it dimmed and became fuzzy like your pictures. I assumed it was an aircraft landing light and the haze was produced by the humidity. It was a bit damp, but like you, I thought the seeing was pretty decent as I'd easily split a fair few doubles. It was slightly reminiscent of the Atlas re-entry delta-V burn I witnessed in September last year. It may have been a Zeta Reticulan scout ship ...

... I mean exploding marsh gas reflected off a high altitude weather balloon.

It was apparently a deorbit burn or fuel dump of some rocket or satellite.

Agree with Steve. I've seen a few reports of this.

"Fuel dump' / burn seems likely.

Regarding timings of rockets etc, if its military or classified there probably wouldn't be any.

I've not seen any other reports, definitely none that are 'official' so it could well be military.
