SynScan

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am a beginner so please bear with me 🙂

I invested in a EQ5 mount  + SynScan for my 50th birthday and am struggling to get to grips with the basics......

When you start the SynScan up it asks to set the Longtitude and Latitude, however, my Lontitude is -1.104660 (W) and you cannot add in a minus symbol...? I trued converting it but it is still a minus.....

I am assuming that the latitude is to the nearest decimal point...? ie. my latitude is 51.352700  and therefore enter into SynScan as 51.35....?

Any help appreciated as it is driving me mad.....

Many Thanks...Keith

Longitudes are usually quoted as E or W (which correspond to + or - numbers respectively), so you don't need both. The Synscan controller will only accept positive numbers together with E or W for longitude and N or S for latitude. The values are also entered in degrees and arc-minutes rather than in decimal format. So for your position you should enter:

Long: W 001° 06'

Lat:     N 51° 21'
