North America ad Pelican Widefield

Widefield view of North America Nebula, Pleican Nebula and Deneb.

 

I've been wanting to get a widefield setup together for some time, but was limited by lack of a suitable guidescope.

 

Just bought the ZWO 30F4 mini guider, so fitted my ZWO120mc on to it. Focussed in the daytime and then went into PHD, could see lots of stars, so then calibrated.

 

My intention is to put my mono ZWO 183mm Pro and filter wheel on this, but that will have to wait until a suitable jig has been built. So last night dug out my old modified 1300D, attached my Canon 100mm macro lens, and then also attached the guider. Watched the guiding and it looked reasonable.

 

From that point onwards the clouds rolled in, so the guiding, whilst working was flipping awful. Still, managed to get 7x10 minute subs, but no darks. Stacked in PixInsight. Only then realised that the image was mono, which was because the image had been stored in FITS format

Next time I need to change the settings in Sequence Generator to store as RAW, rather than FITS.

 

Still, really pleased with the result, and the performance of the lens, just need to get some proper clear so the guiding is better, you can clearly see the issue if you zoom in on Flickr.

Considering it's a first set up for the rig I would consider that a win Dave. Looking forward to seeing further work.
