First light on Canon 135mm lens, Gamma Cygni Nebula

Hi guys,

  I bought a new lens for my wide-field rig this week, My old 100mm macro lens was not up to the job, so I have replaced it with a Canon 135mm F2 L lens, one of those nice ones with the red ring.  Got it second hand half price from Wex .

 

 As has been suggested I stopped it down from F2 to f2.8. Guiding was by a ZWO 30F4 guidescope and ZWO 120mc guide camera.

  So this was the first outing, 25 x 300 second exposure in Ha on the Gamma Cygni and Crescent nebulae. Processed in PixInsight, stars removed with Starnet 2, nebulosity stretched and stars put back in Photoshop..

Is this with your 1300D ?

 

The 135/2 has always had a great reputation as one of the sharpest lenses ever made.

I wonder if you need to stop it down if just capturing narrow band images as you won't get any CA (which is what my 200mm version suffers from when wide open).

Good point Clive, but at the minute, i don't know.  I am just taking the advice of another user of the same lens. Good start though.
