Popular Post +Derbyshire Dave Posted October 20, 2022 Popular Post Share Posted October 20, 2022 Turned the new 135mm Canon lens and 183mm cooled mono camera on the veil nebula. 30x300 seconds on each of the Ha, Oiii and Sii filters. Stacked and processed in Pixinsight, finished off with a luminance layer in photoshop. I've been able to get the witches broom, or western veil before, but never the entire beast. It never ceases to amaze me with the intricate patterns in the veil. Evidently... The Veil Nebula is a supernova remnant located 2,100 lightyears away in the Cygnus constellation that spans 110 lightyears across. In the case of the Veil Nebula, the star in question was 20 times the mass of the Sun and exploded about 8,000 years ago. A blast wave from the stellar explosion is hitting cooler, more dense interstellar gas and emitting light in the process. Click and click again in Flickr for better resolution.
