First Mars of the year

That's a great shot Dave, considering the poor seeing conditions. Mars was really wobbling about in our GPCAM 327C last night at the Derby & District AS observing evening!

Good result Dave considering last nights iffy seeing.

We were up in WW for a session. We had some decent views at times, but by and large, not the best of conditions.

Nice, I decided to try and test my mount out on DSO rather than swing over to Mars - wish I had now, the mount is not behaving!

Out of interest, what is this "WW" people are referring to??

Nice capture Dave,  I was looking at Mars last night and I could see those dark features using the Baader Neodymium filter, best views of Mars I've ever had 😃. I've never been much of a planetary observer but I thought i would have a go last night as Mars looked so bright. I managed to see both Uranus and Neptune for the first time ever too,  nothing much to see but it was good to finally see them.

That’s a great image Dave, lots of light and dark contrasts and good to see the polar cap! I am really looking forward to spending some time looking at Mars over he next month or so 👍

Yeah, agree Steve, should be great. I guess the good additional thing about planetary is that you can try and do it in breaks in the clouds .. as opposed to needing a lots of continuous time for DSO's
