Affinity Photo

So there's 40% off Affinity Photo at the moment, is it fairly easy/intuitive to use? I'm using Photoshop at the moment and as I've not had chance to do much imaging recently and i can't see that changing for the foreseeable future it seems like money down the drain, is it worth switching?

I stumped up for it after using the GIMP. Still learning the dark arts at the moment but I like the layout. The background removal isn't too bad on gradients. Also a few of the popular PS plugins are available for it now.

I'm not sure what the histogram display is like in PS but Affinity seems a bit limited.

I think it's worth the money as it's a one off payment, I'd have to be using PS every day to justify a subscription.

Hi Dave, @Glafnazur

Are you talking about version 2 ?

Affinity Photo V2 has only just been released, and was £90 when i looked at it the other week.

I'm a long time Mac user and purchased V1 a year or two ago. I think it was £25

I will probably upgrade to V2 at some point, but will wait for the price to fall a bit first, which it will.

I've only scratched the surface of V1 to be honest. I could really do with some private tuition to get to grips with it.

I know Nik Szymanek (remember he did a talk at DDAS a few years ago ?) who is the imaging specialist on Astronomy Now magazine

has been doing regular tutorials using Affinity for the last two or three years, so one would think its a decent enough piece of software,

especially with all the 'plug-ins' you can use.

Hi Rob,

yes, version 2, currently on offer at £35.99, it is £89.99 for the whole suite but I don't need publisher or designer. I think I'll definitely be pressing the buy button 🙂

Believe it or not Rob it was way back in April 2009 when Nik Szymanek came to the DDAS, I remember it well as I was secretary at the time and it was a long journey for him. I think he was a bit reluctant at first but I managed to sweet talk him to come and visit us 🙂 It was an excellent talk too if I remember correctly

Good grief ; is it really 13 years ago !!

It was a good talk, he's a good speaker.

I've also seen him do a talk at Astrofest some years later where he had problems with his computer, and had to rejig the whole talk live in front of the audience !!

I just noticed on the chat your wife has been in hospital.

Sorry to hear about that. Thoughts are with you both.
