Just been browsing scopes as ya do. A new one has popped up that looks really interesting, with an internal focuser. Has anyone tried these out or is it a new thing?

It looks to be new.

But i'm not entirely sure how it works ?

Its expensive though, the GT81 with this new focusing arrangement is £1800

I, myself am unconvinced. Maybe i'm a bit cynical and set in my ways.

Are they saying this is better than a conventional rack and pinion focuser ?

Whatever they say, i take it with a pinch of salt.

I'm not in the market for one, it just caught my eye. It's quite a premium to pay over the GT81, I've not noticed anyone complaining about the payload on the standard focuser.

Because the length of the telescope doesn’t change when you focus, it’s great in confined spaces like the Space Station.

Hopefully there will be one at the PAS in a couple of weeks.  Then we can have a good gander.

I guess they move the objective lens assembly rather than the eyepiece?

I’ve just seen on the website that is how they do it.  Also they are looking to use on larger apertures too. It should help with balance depending on how well it works.

I’m going. Not sure whether the credit card is joining me though.

Mine will be staying at home, unless I find where my better half has hidden it 😄

Perhaps I should join Doug again in a supervisory roll and assist him in spending lots of £££  😀
