I got up this morning at 4am to observe Jupiter as i have only seen it recently when it is very low so it has not looked its best.

It was hard work dragging myself out of a nice warm bed but it was very worthwhile.

As some of you will know the seeing can be particularly good an hour or so before dawn and i was not dissapointed. I managed to use 250x magnification this morning and the view through my 8 inch newt was wonderful. The 2 main equatorial belts were full of subtle detail and there was other fainter banding visible. The GRS was also on show this morning but it looks a bit faded to my eyes.

A thoroughly enjoyable hour or more was spent at the eyepiece and it was well worth the loss of a couple of hours sleep.

I hope to start imaging soon as this has given me just the spur that i needed to get me out of bed at stupid o'clock in the morning. :)

Clear skies.
