I was tired and thirsty and just wanted a cuppa. Me - Can I have a large Tea with milk and this panini heated please? Co Worker - Can I have your name for the order please? Me - Phil and can I have a large Tea with milk and this Panini heated please? Co Worker - Is this to go or seating indoors/ Me - Indoors please, just a large Tea with Milk and this panini heated please? Co Worker - Is that a Regular Tea? Me - No a Large Tea with Milk and this Panini heated please? Co Worker - Do you want milk? Me - Yes please, a large Tea with Milk and this Panini heated please? Co Worker - what milk would you like, Skimmed, Full, Semi Skimmed? Me - Any milk, whichever comes to hand first Co Worker - Do you want the milk in the tea or in a separate jug? Me (Getting rather ticked off now and feeling like I should tell them to stuff it where the kettle doesn't boil but I wanted a tea desperately) - Separate please and this Panini heated please? Co worker - Is there anything else/ Me - Yes this Panini and Heated please? Co Worker - Would you like it heating? This was such an impersonal experience, she was reading from the tablet/screen and not engaging with customers at all. Unfortunately this level of service is becoming all too common. The drone type mentality can hide behind computers/procedures etc. I had a similar experience with another well known coffee outlet awhile back. I am gluten intolerant and asked the server what gluten free stuff they had. She went straight into a rourine that explained intolerances and allergies and how they catered for all but she never answered my question. I left without ordering.
