Parakeet

They called a local parrot rescue person and they collected it. Hopefully it finds it's way home.

What are the species of Parakeets we see in our local parks ? @Doc

I've read they are 'Red Necked Parakeets',  also read 'Rose Ringed Parakeets', and 'Ring Necked Parakeets'

Are these 3 different species, or all the same cobbled together under different names....??

Ring-necked parakeet also known as rose-ringed parakeet as far as i know. I have never heard of a red necked parakeet.

The problem they are finding, is that they are pushing out our native species, they out compete them for food and territory. Even Corvids leave them alone.

I can see how people like them as they are intelligent and engaging, but at the end of the day,  they're an invasive species.

Yes, i think they will eat a lot of the food garden birds live on....but then, so do grey squirrels which are an invasive species too.

I'd love to see one on my feeders though.

If i'm lucky i'll get a visit from a Greater spotted woodpecker.

I don't seem to get many finches any more. Nor Jays, which were fairly regular about 10-15 years ago.

It will be interesting to see if these Ring-necked Parakeets settle in Darley Park ?

And there are predators at large here, including Sparrowhawks, Tawny owls and a family of Peregrin Falcons only a mile away at the Cathedral,

all of which will prey on Parakeets.

I have seen lots of parakeets when I worked for the parks in Leicester, particularly in Evington and Knighton Park. And there are loads in Amsterdam!!! At least I think I saw some!!!!!
