Electroluminescent panels for flats

Recommended Posts

Hi folks. Does anyone have any experience using electroluminescent panels for generating flat fields? I'm looking to make something as my current method of taking flats isn't very practical and the results are sketchy. They look like a reasonably priced option with a good evenly illuminated surface.

I've used one for the last 2 years with good results. I still put a T shirt over though

to even out the light a bit..

I use a Lacerta flat panel for my scope, together with a PWM dimmer switch I purchased along with it. It works really well. The dimmer switch is essential to reduce the brightness of the panel, in order to get flat exposures of several seconds, as is recommended for CMOS sensors. Also, only a Pulse Wave Modulation (PWM) dimmer will work with an LED panel.

If its for you GT81 just use an old tablet , if for a bigger newt use an EL panel , exposures for flats its recommended to get above 1 sec and for EL panels a must in my experience ,you will need to experiment for brightness .
