Evening All,

Just a quick mention to say that Ilkeston & District AS (IDAS) will be taking part in another popular Stargazing Event at Erewash Museum this Saturday evening (November 11th).  The free event starts at 6pm, and will continue until 9pm.  We’ll have telescopes showing members of the public some of the wonders of the night sky (weather permitting!).  Besides this, we’ll have a display of Member’s astronomy photographs and drawings, and several talks/presentations will be held during the evening.  Members will also be on hand to answer questions and give astronomical advice.

It's also nice to report that Cool Science will be in attendance, showing everyone some cool science experiments. 😊

Here’s some more info:

Venue:  Erewash Museum, High Street, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, DE7 5JA.

Fingers crossed for clear weather.

Afternoon All,

A big thanks to everyone who came along to Saturday’s Erewash Museum Stargazing Event.  We were blessed with clear skies for some of the event, and from what I heard Jupiter was definitely the “star attraction”.   Our telescope guys also trained their instruments onto other objects, but most people just wanted to look at Jupiter – so our guys didn’t disappoint😊.  We did have cloud come in mid-point to spoil things, but it did clear again in the latter stages of the night.

We had a static display of photographs/drawings in the Lalley Gallery, which proved popular, and we also held several well attended talks in the Hayloft.  Pleased to report that Pete from Cool Science was in attendance making lots of “bangs”, and showing the kids some nice science experiments.

All in all, while it was a busy night it was also enjoyable.  We had a total attendance of over 500 people, which was very good –  double what we had for our March 2023 event.

It is hoped we can organise another similar event next spring, so watch this space for updates.  😊

Cheers
