And me Mike, i really need to see another one in the time i have left (my only time was in 1999 in Germany, but the total stage, you've guessed it was clouded out.)

The partial phases were clear that day, just my luck. Super shots again, and i'm pleased to hear you had a successful trip to the US

I had a look at the UK Astro Trails Group and they look good. Can you recommend them ?

I'd like to see the Aug 2026 event in Spain and maybe the 2027 event in Egypt.

I'd half thought that Majorca would be a good spot, it should be, but the problem is that the sun will be close to setting from there and low down. Sods law.

Looking at the images again........

Are they prominences or are they 'Baily's beads' ? Or are they the same thing ?

Either way, a spectacular sight.....

Bailly's Beads are when the sun begins to shine through towards the observer through valleys along the limb of the moon near the end of totality, appearing as sparkling points of light. Prominences are the pink flames of gas leaping up from the sun, emitting hydrogen alpha light. But I think you may be on to something there Rob. That second image I have shown above is within a minute of totality ending and some of those bright whitish sparkles are in the right place for Baily's Beads to form as they are where the sun soon emerged from in the 5 o'clock position. Compare with the diamond ring image I show again here.  Then again, having said that, there are plenty of pink prominences in that area if you zoom in on the totality images, and the inner corona is also very bright. Hmmm, very intriguing.
