Bob the Dobs mods

Recommended Posts

I have done a few very simple, yet effective mods on Bob. Bob is my Skywatcher 150p dob :-)

Firstly i've cleaned all the moving parts on his mount and put a squirt of silicone spray on these areas, he now glides very smoothly and easily. Polish with silicone in will also work. :-)

Secondly i've added a counter weight to his back end, in readyness for when I need it. For this i've found, yes in the street lol, a car mobile phone sticky gripy mat type thing. On this I have places some magnets, having the mat means that Bob won't get scratched, also it's dead easy to move position to where ever works the best.

The magnets i'm currently using are Ikea tablecloth corner holder things. They're in a pack of four, so I can not only choose the best position, but also the number of weights. I'm sure in time they won't be heavy enough, but at the mo they are fine, and they are black and white. :-)

We bought these a couple of years ago for a project in the camper, I imagine Ikea still sell them now.
