Stability mod for Skytee

My Astro Engineering pier top was not originally designed for use with a Skytee, or at least not without some form of adaptor which I don't have. So I had it modified to support the Skytee with more stability.

The first pic shows the bottom of the Skytee which sat on the original flat top of the pier, giving minimal contact area, and not ideal with the weight of my kit... see Fully Loaded http://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.co.uk/topic/2617-fully-loaded/

These pics show the top of the pier after cutting out a circle to better hold the Skytee with more stability...

These show the Skytee sitting with much greater stability on the pier top...

The holes allow a pin to be dropped in at any of six positions to stop the Skytees tendency to spin on its bolt through the pier top when moving it in azimuth. The pin just drops in so is easily removed in the dark to allow a 60 degree rotation of the Skytee to avoid awkward positioning of the long slo mo extension cables...

It is now more stable and convenient to use than it was previously. Very pleased :) .

I'm actually going to get a Sky tee one day for my WO 81GT scope. I have plans for an extension pier and a degree circle and looking at your pics this could be done dead easy. It all looks very neat Peter well done.

Hi Pete,

Great pics especially of the bottle of j p chenet blanc :D ...The pier will mount that skytee with more stability now. You had the same issue as my eq when i plonked the pier ext on it.

Bring em round one eve when you have changed that lovely car of SWMBO for a ford transit...

Cheers

My parking space isn't big enough for that, lol. But perhaps I could make a mini one from funky foam and double sided tape.

Back on topic, I'm looking forward to seeing your new mod, you've a lot of attention to detail. :)

Some say a drop of JP Chenet makes most mounts seem to move a bit more smoothly, others would argue that it reduces stability if used to excess ;) .
