The book I ordered from amazon (though other retailers exist) arrived today and between entertaining my parents and watching masterchef, I have't been able to put it down. It's from 2007 but I've not sense anything is dated yet. Explains the principles and what can be achieved wonderfully well:

Not strictly true. They don't have an infinate lifespan.

I was more referring to digital SLR technology. I've not encountered a great deal of astronomy yet, it's more about the principles of camera, lenses, telescopes etc. He explains things so easily, even I'm finally getting my simple brain around some of the things which I've never really grasped. I did skip the calculations for working out the field of view, I saw "tan" and turned the page quickly :)
