Looking at saving up for this over a couple of months and getting an NEQ6 too and some upgraded camera or ccd.

Can people please post advice on it and if this is too much for a newbie like me suggest something else?

Also could someone suggest a camera/ccd upgrade :)

Thanks :)

Not being funny Eddy but you are not experienced enough just yet, even I would shy away from one and I've been doing this 20 odd years.

I don't think you get much more specialist than this.

Sounds like far more trouble than it's worth, and it costs a lot.

Its only advantage is that it is probably the largest aperture you could sqeeze into a rucksack for motorcycle transport :D .

F2.8, and I thought my SNT was short  .

Looks very pretty Eddy but are you sure you want this sort of hassle and expense? its not just the OTA its all the other

stuff that has to come with it. Trust me I know LOL

What mount you putting it on, the bog standard stuff won't cut it.

It's the mother of all scopes, but needs the daddy of all mounts to get the best out of it.

Eddy,

I know i am a bit thick but surely you got on well with that ED80 and produced stunning stuff. With an NEQ6 mount and something similar to that

you just can't fail.

Also you would be up and running immediately and already used to it. Dont like the sound of these 'fast' scopes they sound a pain in the ass from what i have

read with collimation and the other stuff you will need. Cost a fortune and lots of hassle.

Well tnhats my two penneth, you can PM me and tell me how wrong I am if you like, but I think for once i might not be talking out of my a***

Harel Boren gets stunning results but, as the others have said, these fast astrographs are rarely plug and play. I don't get involved with them because I'm too busy when it goes dark and I want simplicity. For around £2K you'd have a fighting chance of finding a Tak FSQ85ED. That is the fastest 'easy' scope on the market, F3.9 with reducer. It holds focus (unlike the 106) and would be fine on an HEQ5. It has a flat field capable of full frame imaging and it has no vices - apart from the price!
