A cheap DIY power tank

While the weather has been a little poor, and since I have an old car battery sitting idle in my garage, I'd thought it go about making a simple power tank to power my 12v hairdryer. (mainly for combating eyepiece dew).

I do realize a car battery is not the best choice for this type of project, but the unit should still work with a proper leisure battery if/when my old battery finally packs up. It's not really a build thread either, as the tank is 90% or so complete (save a hardboard base and securing clamps I've yet to fit inside).

Donor case was a cheap toolbox from a DIY store...

The innards consist of 2 12v ciggy lighter sockets wired with 15 and 5 amp fuses on each line...

And a DVM with a push-to-make switch...

Total cost was under £30 and with my now heated Telrad, hopefully no more dew problems stopping play!  B)

Yeah, cheers - I thought I'd need one sooner or later.

I was also sick of tripping over the car battery in the garage - so now I got a bigger toolbox to trip over!
