Fancy finding a Quasar

One of my planned targets for Spring is the Quasar 3C273.

I want to find this as it's probably the most distant object I'll ever see. It's not difficult to find and can bee seen in a 200mm scope with ease, and with a 150mm from a good dark site.

Here's a site with good finder charts, which can be down loaded and printed.

I would be interested to hear how you get on if you fancy a go at it.

That's an interesting read Martin. Good of the guy to pre generate the star charts like that.

Hi Martyn.

I am up for it.

Will see what we can do if and when this bloody rain stops and the clouds clear.

This object is listed in the latest pocket atlas.

I think it would be something to see, I have been lucky enough to see two supernova's, which really amazes me.

I suppose the massive amount of energy, and the distance involved takes some getting your head round.

Plus there's all the galaxies to look at. Ibbo and myself found the Antennae galaxy  (NGC 4038/ 4039) at SGL6, and although all you could see was a faint grey heart shaped smudge it was fantastic.

Martyn hopefully game on from around 2 AM tomorrow morning if these clear skies hold out.

Hopefully I can post a photo of it in the morning.

As you were folks.

Sorry to disappoint you all but I missed it by a couple of degrees to the east.

The Quasar is out of view just above my image.

Quite what I have got in the cropped image I have no idea.

I will attempt to correct this on the next clear night.
