For more than half a century Sir Patrick Moore encouraged people to look up at the wonders of the night skies. Fittingly in this programme, recorded just before his death, he and his team offer advice to those who are discovering astronomy for the very first time. How should they set up their new telescopes and what should they seek out in the winter skies as they begin to share Sir Patrick's lifelong passion for the stars?

The end of an era :(

Yep, very sad. I still do not know who can replace him.

Short answer is nobody, nor should they. However there needs to be somebody to pick up the batton and carry on the good work SPM has done over the decades in promoting the wonders of the night skies to the mases. Certainly a hard act to follow.

There will never be another presenter like SPM. He was just such a unique type of person and has always been the typical old fashioned astronomer, but had the ability to put the subject over in such an inspiring way. He also packed such a lot into his short programs with a lot of words per minute.

Don't get me wrong, I do like the other guys, but they are all totally different.

We have a charismatic pop star/particle physicist, a rock guitar legend/astrophysicist, an Oxbridge Professor, and an amateur astronomer. Maybe an irish stand-up comedian would do a good job :) .

It will be very interesting to see what happens and how the program changes.

Think that O'Briain would be a good call as the new front man for S@N, ably assisted by Lintott, May, et al.  Similar format to SGL where Dara represents joe bloggs and gets the experts to answer his 'questions'

That could actually work. He's certainly got the charisma and appeals to a wide audience.
