ES 3" 100 Degree 30mm EP

This is just the start of a whole range of big eps.

This new range of eps in the 3" barrel could theoretically go up to about 43mm focal length still with the 100 degree field. That calculates to the eyepiece field lens being 3" across.

An American firm called Siebert already make eps in up to 4.3" barrels, but they all have smaller fields of view.

Most average scopes will show a lot of vignetting with this, and would also exhibit field edge abberations (from the scope not ep), but apo refractors should give brilliant views.

More counterweights on my dob springs to mind.

The views must be incredible, imagine the cost if Televue designed one.

After leaving Meade, Scott Roberts has raised a few bars with his Explore Scientific products, though I still think Televue has a slight edge quality wise and they do a much wider range of equipment.

ES has pipped TV to the longest focal length 100 degree ep (25mm), the widest field ep (9mm 120 degree), and now the 3" 100 degree.

Televue might start pushing their boundaries even more now.

All exciting stuff :) .

that is just showing off :D

These new ES products are going to show of the sky better than anybody elses.

But that's dirty visual. You imagers can do much better, it just takes longer :D .

Monster views as well.

The 3" one will be about 1.5x as big as my 14mm 100 degree ES in every direction.

This is my 14mm next to some other common eps...

This is it next to my 10 x 50s...

The 3" would probably have you in casualty if you dropped it on your foot :D .

This eyepiece has got me thinking about a serious upgrade of all my kit just to accommodate eps like this.

Its just crazy. Can you even get a 3" focuser? I've never seen one.

Damians (Damnuut) scope originally owned by Doc, has a 4" focuser!!

If anyone fancies an upgrade, this company makes eyepieces with barrel sizes of 2.7", 3", 3.5", 4" and even 4.3", with focal lengths up to 110mm, also big diagonals and adaptors...

This Aussie guy makes a 3" eyepiece. Just look at the picture of it next to a 31mm Nagler...

He also seems to be into steampunk telescopes. Just look at some of these beauties and click the pics for more. These are real works of art...
