Diffraction Spiker

Astrocookie

Recommended Posts

Hi

I know i'm going to divide opinion but occasionally I see an astro image that looks nice with diffraction spikes on the stars.

I've made an attachment for my ED80 refractor. Not tested yet!!!

Made from 110mm waste pipe coupling, grub screws and my old guitar strings.

(Tuned to C#  )

Hope you get a clear sky soon! :)

Nice. You could do different patterns too by changing the angle or putting more bits in.

Cracking mod if you are into that sort of thing!

Fingers crossed for the test.

Sounds good for the more artistic looking image. Looks like you are creating a schism with the purists though! :D

Nice idea.

Sorry to the purists but I like diffraction spikes.

I use a plug in in PS to add mine if I am using the frac.

I quite like to see them in some cases, but not all. If it's good enough for NASA and the Hubble it's good enough for me :D

It is a very professional looking mod too :) .

Sometimes it makes a nice change to see a little artistic enhancement to astro images.

I agree with you Mike and Kim.

Not going to use it all the time, just something else to mess about with!

Might use a waste pipe coupling to support a dew shield for my next 'homebrew' mod.

Daz / Sheila : I understand. Potato / potatto   (Jury still out with me until I get some images)

I'm not having a go or anything, I'm only a dirty visual kind of guy, you won't see me going down the dark path, so I have no say what so ever when it comes to pictures. ;)

Can't wait to see your first pics with it though, if it works, it will be a cracking good cheap mod to get the effect you are after.
