Nikon V1 reformatting problems

Hi all we use a Nikon V1 on the schools scope and have had some fairly good results for our first try, but we would like to use Registax for getting a better image. Now when I have tried putting the file into registax it obviously doesn't recognise it, so I was wondering what software you use to convert the files? I have tried various conversion program's but still can not get registax to recognise my file. These are .MOV files by the way. Many thanks for any help.

I'm not sure exactly what format that is. Can you check the file properties and see how it is encoded? You could see if you can download Handbrake to convert the file to avi.

Cheers Leigh I will try that out, I used to have handbrake on my computer and totally forgot about it. Thanks that's a great help.

Hi There,

Just be careful about loosing quality on the conversion to avi. Registax does not handle mov files.

Hi Colin,

I'll have a look for a mov to avi converter. There are a few free on's around.

You may try to convert MOV files to mp4 file with mpeg-4 codec, and this will give you better quality output (than other format).

See: how to convert mov to mp4 format

If you're not sure what settings to use you can always load a video that plays Ok and check the properties.
