well as some of you already know the focuser on the celestron C8 Sgt  is AWFUL haha so with that in mind I have decided to sort it out ,

also while im at it im gonna change to a 2" EP set up as well .

anyway I have decided on the following

Focuser - Baader Steeltrack SCT Crayford Focuser 2"    http://www.harrisontelescopes.co.uk/acatalog/Baader_Steeltrack_SCT_Crayford_Focuser.html

star diagonal - Baader Clicklock Diagonal 2"       http://www.harrisontelescopes.co.uk/acatalog/Baader_Clicklock_Diagonal_2_.html

EP - Baader Mark 3 Hyperion Clickstop Zoom Eyepiece  http://www.harrisontelescopes.co.uk/acatalog/Baader_Mark_3_Hyperion_Clickstop_Zoom_Eyepiece.html

so ...... ladies and gentlemen what are your thoughts ? good  or bad move

The Hyperion zoom does fit on a 2" but the entry aperture stays at 1.25"
good point . Didnt notice that . Ill have a rethink on ep

I'd leave the Steeltrack and go straight down the Moonlite route

I'd also leave the zoom and get fixed length Celestron X-Cel LX's

Just personal opinion :)

The X-Cel LX 12mm that I'm currently borrowing is really nice, so I second them.

Hope to replace my 25mm with one in the future as well...

I have one in 7mm , and im sorry guys but I really don't like it , the eye  relief is shocking , the multi-coatings have worn off the lens , something that I noticed the other night , thought it was a spec of dirt , however on closer inspection it was wear , not good  but as I say just my main reason is , just not getting on with eye relief

id love the moonlight , but im not paying £350.00 for one , as nice as they are , , its out of my budget really , the extra money I spend on a moonlight  , means one less Ep

but if funds would allow then I hear you

I have a few different EP's in my collection, (see Signature!) and I only live 12 miles away! If you fancy a visit you are very welcome Steve?

Cheers

Great choices - I have the hyperion zoom which is great for planetary work and alignment, as well as the smaller and brighter DSOs, then use a Panaview 32mm 2" EP which works great in a C8 and doesn't cost a fortune.  Well worth the upgrade

Have you thought about these? There may be one available for your scope:

http://www.firstlightoptics.com/starlight-instruments-feathertouch/microfocuser-for-celestron-cpc-800-6se-c8edge-8se.html

Also is there a specific reason for choosing that particular diagonal? You can get a good, regular CF 2" Dielectric diagonal for half that price or less. It would keep the focus range roughly where it is and support the zoom very nicely with a 2" barrel. All for a lot less outlay. :)

to be honest Kim , no not really , I have read a few reviews and they seemed to be positive , however since your comment I have had a re-think  .

Right been thinking about this for most of the day and have had a re-think . so.......... this is what im now thinking

with regards to star diagonal , im thinking  a William optics , half the price and more options , as in 2" and 1-1/4 , plus it comes with a SCT adapter so it will go straight on  here's the link

http://www.firstlightoptics.com/diagonals/william-optics-2-dielectric-diagonal-with-sct-adaptor.html

with regards to focuser  (  thanks Kim ) gonna go with a starlight micro-focuser   http://www.firstlightoptics.com/starlight-instruments-feathertouch/microfocuser-for-celestron-cpc-800-6se-c8edge-8se.html

as far as my Ep is concerned im gonna take Ron up on his very kind offer of having a look at some of his and try and get a better idea of what im comfortable with

so hows does that sound

Sounds great - do have a word with FLO though about the focuser and confirm it fits your scope. Or if you draw a blank talk to Bern at Modern Astronomy - hes very friendly and great at sourcing irregular requirements.

Also if you intend imaging check if the focuser eliminates mirror shift. I have the WO CF 2" diagonal and it's a beaut - I have the Celestron one too but it's a fair bit dearer. :)
