12V Power supply

Just a quick one.

You all probably know this one but.....

A cheap and reliable PSU for powering everything from mains can be easily made out of an old computer ATEX PSU.

It will supply all the amps you need plus its got great thermal/short circuit protection and is very stable.

There's 12v, 5v AND 3.3V available if required.

Ive just cut all the un-needed cables out and gathered up the 12v cables.

I use it to power my laptop, guider, mount, red LED light

I'll find the link if anyone's interested.

WARNING: Computer PSU's hold a lot of residual energy and you can get an almighty shock even hours after power has been removed.

Leave OFF for a couple of days or wear gloves before cracking one open.

Cheers

Paul

Very well regulated.

Mines a 120W and there's no voltage change even when i pulled 10 A out of it when testing.

Iv'e not had a look at the ripple but I bet its negligible.

They are designed to power hard drives, mother boards, Video cards and the like so have to provide a stable, consistent supply.

I'm going to put another one together to use as a bench power supply for electonics testing. I may rig that up to a scope (oscilloscope not telescope and see how clean the output is.
