I've got a 2nd hand Panasonic Lumix. It's gettting some good afocal shots of the Sun in hydrogen alpha but not so good on the Moon. I normally leave the more sophisticated imaging like webcam and prime focus DSLR to the weekends. Quck afocal shots allow me to maintain my interest without having to compete too much for time with work, home, family, ertc, etc.

Now that's just showing off Stephen

I only got my lodestar a week or two before Kelling cos I wanted it up and running for the event. So I'm gutted they bought out a more sensitive one with half decent connections only a few weeks later. Nice purchase. :)

That's not showing off ... the reason why I've purchased it might be considered as such though  More on that later ...

In your case you've made the right call anyway I think. As nice as it is, you really don't need the sensitivity increase unless you're working at much longer focal lengths and as to the connections ... I never used the ST4 port on my old Lodestar - pulse guiding all the way!!! :D

here`s a tip, be prepared for frustration and annoyance and at least trebling your budget L.O.L.

if your starting astrophotograpy choose a target that is bright, alittle late now in the season but something like M42 is ideal, easy to find, easy to capture and easy to get some nice colours out of with processing.

there`s lots more to consider but we look forward to seeing your results.

A mixed random selection of stuff from astroboot, including a little diddy skywatcher heritage 76. That one is for Elroy lol.
