Looking on the very slow to load light pollution maps, http://www.avex-asso.org/dossiers/wordpress/?page_id=127, there are two darker patches near Northampton. One to the north, about a mile or two radius of a place called Haselbech, and another to the West South West, again in a two miles radius of a place called Preston Capes.

You could easily go for a drive around in day light at the two places after studying Google Maps and identify potential sites, then re-check them out at night. Then ask the farmers permission to set up at night there. I've done that for two locations, but one now overlooks an ever illuminated industrial building, and the other is up a track which is so bad I'm reluctant to drive up it any more. Having access to Wymeswold is a blessing, though, as it's relatively dark and secure and very easy for me to get to. In fact, I might even go tonight if the weather and bad hold out.
